Life-long Learners

I work in the post-secondary sector, and so the term "Life-Long Learner" is something I encounter every so often. A Life-Long Learner is defined as an individual who continuously aims to improve with the use of various educational modalities. There are classroom setting lectures and workshops, conferences, books and blogs/websites to read, on-line web courses, audio tapes, plus one mode that is so prevalent nowadays are webinars. What a very convenient way to learn, right?!!

Being a life-long learner does not have to mean pain for your wallet! There are tons and tons of free e-books and free webinars out there. Just this morning, I received another free webinar offer from Electronic Recruiting Exchange on Social Media.

For the CHRPs (Certified Human Resources Professionals) out there...here's a chance to get more 'points' towards re-certification! :-)

  1. hi Jocelyn,

i totally believe in Life long learning and thanks for bringing it out. L3 is important for everyone in this modern world and more so for the socio-economically and physically disadvantaged. during my professional association with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Vancouver, i initiated a project on 'L3 for farmers (L3 Farmers)'. although i have retired from COL at the end of 2008, i am pleased that the L3 Farmers programme is still being continued at COL. hopeflly, more resource-poor farmers particularly from the developing countries, would benefit from L3 and use it for improving their livelihoods.

    cheers

  2. hi khrisna.

it is heartening to learn that there are more and more of my L3 'ilk' out there. L3 is part of the prism of life, not just HR. most heartening as well is finding out that with L3 the socio-economically disadvantaged are aided. how did you set up your L3 program with the farmers? is the COL still in existance?

  3. Moving to Canada has opened a lot of opportunities for me to continue to learn. There are a lot to choose from - ranging from the free to the not-so-expensive and the company-sponsor-me varieties. CHRP is an option I am contemplating on and I hope you can guide me to the right path.

  4. Moving here has opened a lot of doors for me in terms of life- long learning too. I believe this is the case for most of us, we just have to take the opportunity when it comes.

I was at a conference mid -April and won 5 free courses for myself, and 10 free courses for people in my department. I guess it was my lucky day. :-)

If and when you decide about HR, just tell me, I'll give you the info.
